Since I'm between game weeks in both Appaloosa Plains and Dragon Valley/New Ascadia I spent some time playing some short games in two of the other worlds. I knew that Midnight Hollow would be too dark (lighting-wise) for my tastes but figured I may as well check it out anyway. I installed the Midnight Dream Lighting Mod which helped some, but with the textures themselves being so dark there is only so much that can be done. And not only is the world dark, but there is also very little space to move around. In spite of the world's large size, the game-play area isn't much more than narrow stripes of roads that wind between nearby hills. After about three game days I had enough.
It's unfortunate that the world doesn't have more space and better lighting, for I really like the idea of it. It has a Victorian feel to it with the buildings and clothes. Not to mention the quirky characters. For this game I went in with my small human crew from Appaloosa Plains (Gloria, James, Robin and Allison) and had fun swapping out their modern clothes for those that go with the Victorian/Edwardian theme. James and Robin looked GOOD in the clothes from Palace of Versailles, which is earlier than the Victorian period, but none of these worlds are 100% historically accurate. Many of the NPCs in Midnight Hollow are sporting the "Steampunk" look.
Gloria also looked good in the new attire, but like me, I don't think she liked how dark everything was, even on a bright sunny day.

Dark colors and lack of space aside, Midnight Hollow is what I've wished Moonlight Falls was. I LOVE Moonlight Falls for the most part. It's my favorite map. I just wish that it had been done with a Victorian feel, with plain gray stone or dirt roads and without the modern buildings. If the roads looked less modern it would be very easy to use Moonlight Falls for settings from other time periods. I might have even used it for New Ascadia if I had the ability to change the road textures. Gloria's house fits right in with the environment.

In spite of the modern painted roads, I've gone ahead and am trying to build my own "Moonlight Falls and Midnight Hollow combined" (I did a search and saw that another player had done this but my virus warning went off when I attempted to download it). I evicted a few of the MH families (mainly the fairies) and brought in some of the colorful characters from Midnight Hollow. I've also removed the modern looking houses and am in the process of replacing them with Victorian style houses. The same with the community lots; I'm removing the modern looking theater, grocer's, bookstore, etc and putting in ones that would work for a previous era.
While this project is entertaining I'll likely go back to New Ascadia later on today. The Elder Scrolls characters have been talking and indicating that they want to move forward in their lives.
Oh, one more change I made to Midnight Hollow (a change that I brought over to Moonlight Falls); there is a character who is supposed to be based on Marilyn Manson. I took him into CAS and changed him into Alice Cooper, a sim I downloaded to use as a base for Gilvoth. I'd far rather have Alice Cooper around than Marilyn Manson.
