For being a non-fanfic game, the world of Moonlight Falls does seem to be weaving an interesting story. So, last night Gloria's dish-washer crapped out (the world is sort of Victorian-Steam Punk theme to allow for some technology and different clothing styles). Her trusty handyman immediately got to work with fixing it while Gloria mopped up the water.

crown_of_antlers: Glorawenn's horse (Gold Steed)
I took a brief break from my Elder Scrolls world to visit Gloria's life in Moonlight Falls. It was interesting playing her through her childhood. In fact I had ended up starting a game that went even further back in time to before she was even conceived, so I got to see each Sims 3 childhood stage as Gloria grew up. This has shown me what to expect for when the Elder Scrolls characters have their children.

Gloria's paternal grandparents have both passed on (and sometimes show up as ghosts) and she has inherited their beautiful cabin and farm that is down the road a bit from the graveyard. Now as a young adult, she is at the life stage she normally is when I start a game with her. James' grandparents have also passed and he now owns their cabin. I'm sure he was thrilled to be able to move into his own home since his parents breed like Bosmers.

On to explaining the title of the entry. Since James, the human version of Neldor, worked so well in Gloria's world, I became curious about Godonir since he's developing into quite the character in Dragon Valley/Pelagiad. Plus I felt like Moonlight Valley needed more werewolves, so I made a household consisting of some of the pre-made characters from the Skyrim Inspired Werewolves mod. And I added a human version of Godonir who has been named Cody (keeping the Black Claw surname since that suits him). The only change I made to his personality was I swapped out the Evil trait for Brave.

An update from Gloria's world (cobble-stoneized Moonlight Falls)). Snicker, the old family horse who recently left with the Reaper, returned as a ghost. For most of the night he stood around his grave in the back corner of the lot. Unfortunately before dawn he decided to make his presence known to everyone.

He went into the barn and started haunting one of the stalls, practically making the door come off its hinges. The living horses became spooked, broke out of their stalls and ran around the paddock with the Panic moodlet. They all needed to be calmed down. The human members of the family and the dog didn't seem all that thrilled to see Snicker's ghost hanging around either. The only one who didn't seem to care was Jasper the family cat.

I think they were all relieved when the ghost suddenly disappeared. Since Snicker's visit was so bothersome to the household, I had them buy a tiny lot a short distance down the road for them to use as a pet cemetery. I moved Snicker's gravestone and flowers there, put an iron fence around it and added a gate that only household members (living ones that is) can use. Now if Snicker comes back he should be confined to the smaller lot and won't be spooking the horses. The new foal has the Nervous trait so she easily gets upset even on the best of days. She doesn't need the ghost of her sire rattling the stall doors.

In other news regarding the Moonlight Falls community; Robin and Allison, who have been woohooing with each other since they became teenagers, have now gotten married, moved to a little starter house and are expecting their first child.

James is now moved into his own home with his own pets because his parents are now expecting their fifth child and their house is at the point of overflowing. I think James is glad for the peace and quiet.

So the only one of the four characters who is still living at home since becoming a young adult is Gloria, and she is living in a small apartment over the barn. I've held off moving her to her own place because I wanted to see if she gets a wish to move out. So far there's been no such wish even though I know that, like James, she would enjoy the peace and quiet.

At this point I'm curious to see if the Flowers, Hunt, Woods, and Winters households ends up out-breeding the vanilla MF households, because with the way they all produced children they certainly seem intent on it.

I feel a little guilty for not having made a post in the [personal profile] aeronwen blog, but I got caught back up in the other save a started a while back featuring Gloria and her friends as children. The game became so interesting that I went even further back in time and started a game with all of the parents as young adults without children so I got to play through the birth's of Gloria, James, Allison, and Robin. For a while everyone lived in the Great Bear world, but when loading the save began taking quite a long time I used NRaas Porter to pack up all my custom households (including the newly created grandparents) and moved everyone to Moonlight Falls (now with the cobblestone road from Dragon Valley and with modern buildings replaced with Victorian styled ones).

The Winters family home in Moonlight Falls:

I spent a good bit of time trying to turn a zebra into a donkey, but without a slider to adjust the animal's size it just didn't work, and I knew that a horse sized donkey would bug me, so I went with creating a mule and am pleased with the results.

At the moment I haven't thought of an official name for her, so for now she's just "Jenny Mule". Her primary purpose is to be a barnyard friend and companion for Gloria's horse. However, since I recently allowed Gloria to buy a mule cart and the mule on it is similar in color I can just roleplay in my mind that Jenny pulls the cart when Gloria needs to drive her garden's produce into town.

Jenny's traits are Genius, Brave, and Friendly because mules and the donkeys they are bred from really aren't as stubborn as is commonly believed. They aren't so much as stubborn as they are very smart. Smarter than horses in fact, and tend to be better at sensing danger and will not allow themselves to be prodded into situations where they might be harmed.

She has just been added to the household so nothing has really happened with her yet, but I'm sure she'll fit right in once she and the other animals have had a chance to get acquainted with each other.

Since I'm not planning to have Gloria get married and have children any time soon - at least not while she's a Young Adult - I'm not concerned about filling up household slots and therefore allowed her to have two more pets.

First I decided to import Aeronwen and Neldor's dog Tinsel (by way of a throwaway household with one sim and the dog) so that Gloria could have a pair of afghan hounds and at some point have afghan puppies. The two dogs got along perfectly and became instant friends.

Next was the arrival of a kitten. When browsing the pets that were available for adoption I saw one that looks exactly like Serafina, my other real life cat, so I had to adopt her. Sim-Noelle was quite happy to have another kitty to play with and started acting like an affectionate big sister (just like real life Noelle did when we brought real life Serafina home).

While it's tempting to allow the afghans to have a pup now so that the puppy and kitten could play together, that would mean Gloria would have two pets that can't go up and down the porch steps themselves and need to have a close eye kept on them. So to avoid having too much going on at once, there will be no little afghans until Sim-Sera grows up. I have aging turned on in Gloria's game, which probably isn't a great idea since the cats are based on my real life cats, but I want the game with my human character to be allowed to move through the life cycles.

To give the Moonlight Falls/Morrowind mainland townies a more upscale place to have dinner, I added the Little Corsican Bistro which is from the Sunset Valley, Riverview, Twinbrook, Barnacle Bay, and Hidden Springs worlds. It doesn't look ultra modern so although it's not medieval, it can work for a Victorian/Edwardian style setting. The nice thing about the Elder Scrolls is that there is a variety of styles sprinkled into Tamriel's many settings, including Victorian styles.

Having just settled in after escaping "The Big Stink" on Vvardenfell, Neldor and Aeronwen decided to go out for dinner. This gave them a rare chance to wear their more formal attire. While they were eating inside the building, Traveling New Woman and Ra'Virr each showed up and had their meals at one of the outdoor tables. Then Morgana showed up.

Since the werewolves have added a new level of entertainment to my Elder Scrolls themed town I thought it would be interesting to add some vampires as well. At first I couldn't think of any Elder Scrolls vampires who would be suitable, but then I remembered that they didn't have to be characters from Morrowind. Being immortal, they could come from a much earlier time, such as the Second Era.

So...in a Victorian themed manor, literally next door to Voryn and Ashara's home, I have added the lead vampires from House Ravenwatch.

The household consists of Count Verandis Ravenwatch (Altmer), Adusa daro (Khajiit), Fennorian (Altmer), and Gwendis (Bosmer).

As the title says, Story Progression is using the five new characters in a number of stories. And so far I haven't seen anything out of character.

Before the news, here is a screenie of Godonir as a werewolf prowling around inside the Blue Moon Tavern. It's no big surprise that he would hang around a dark place like that. Read more... )

Although it took quite a while to set up the mainland Morrowind town in Moonlight Falls, it was worth every minute of it, because so far this has been the most entertaining town. It makes a difference when the game has more sims to work with that aren't off limits the way the core households are.

Here are Nerst's first reports as everyone got settled in: Read more... )

The game really seems to like the additional residents I added and immediately made most of them leaders of NRaas Story Progression factions.Barenziah was made the Town Magnate while Helseth was named the Town Baron (how perfect). As for why they are there, in the head canon the Big Stink that Gilvoth and Neloth created managed to include parts of the southern mainland, so there are Big Stink refugees from Mournhold in Moonlight Falls as well. So far the new reports in the mainland town have been rather spares and I am guessing it's because I have all of the characters' settings locked down so tight to prevent out of character behavior. For example, Yanna was the Town Tart but the game recently retired her from the role because "she wasn't meeting requirements". In other words, there were not enough males in town who were permitted to fool around with her. The game attempted to have her get something going with Basnik (even though I have him set to not cheat on Alandis) but when I caught them slow dancing I used the Master Controller to reset him. This snapped him out of Yanna's arms and sent him home. Forget it, Yanna/Sims Game. The Clever Prank boys don't do such things.

I did however permit the game to break up a household. Skink in Tree's Shade, Traveling New Woman, Ra'Virr and Ahnassi were brought in as one household and set up in Victorian style townhouse (with a big garden and greenhouse in the back for Traveling New Woman). Before the first day was through the game/Nerst broadcasted this message:

"Ra'Virr is simply not welcome in this home any longer," remarked Skink in Tree's Shade. "I have put up with his nonsense for long enough. Now it is time for him to leave."

Following Skink's statement, it was announced over the airwaves that Ra'Virr and Ahnassi moved into a house closer to the center of town.

The only other messages that came up during the first day were about the Harpy Gang;

"No one seems to like us. I can't understand why," smiled Sophelia while preening next to Morgana le Hex. "We're young, we're pretty, we are simply fabulous. What's not to love?"

"I love how everyone stares when we walk by. They are totally checking out my glutes!" grinned Sophelia LaChance.

"Are not, ho! They are obviously checking out my legs!" retorted Morgana le Hex. "Whatever! As long as their eyes are on us, nothing else matters!"

Oh, and there was the usual message that Nalcarya was paying Crassius for Gigolo services. And Merriweather Golden paid the other gigolo Tanor the Sleaze (Ewwww, Merri, I thought you had higher standards).

The game doesn't seem to like having so many of the residents locked down and off limits for certain things, but that's tough. I want to keep the characters whom we love and come to know so well to do things that they would never ever do.

Finally, a couple of screenies: Read more... )

The Elder Scrolls sims appear to be settling into their new environment and should be comfortable while waiting for the huge stink cloud that's currently over Vvardenfell to dissipate.

(Gilvoth: "Look, it is not mine or Neloth's fault that the pair of skooma-addled pea-brains thought it would be funny to get into one of our silos, stuff themselves full of beans and then use a fire wand to light up the air that came out of their backsides!")

Ahem...as I was saying, all of the households have settled in and began going about their business. The first thing that needed to be done was have Neldor put the band together. Instead of having him ride all over the place tracking down his brother and cousins, I had Neldor take Tinsel to the dog park and then used Sim Control to have Thorinor, Basnik, and Brolmir come to him.

The snow topped mountains, the dense trees and the gorgeous crystal blue water of Moonlight Falls made me unable to resist; I had to make an Elder Scrolls themed town and head-canon that it's in a north-western area of mainland Morrowind, just southeast of Skyrim. No, I have not downloaded the CAW and now I probably won't bother because the save I created wouldn't work with a changed map. This would mean I would have to start over again from the ground level. And I do mean the ground level.

I started with a save that I downloaded from Mod the Sims: Moonlight Falls Emptied. Not only were the households and buildings all removed, the lots themselves had been taken out. By placing the lots myself, I had the freedom to lay out the town exactly as I wanted, which each lot being the size that was needed. This way I was able to keep the business buildings centralized.

First I placed the town hall and office building. From there I added more businesses such as the grocer, the school, the library, and the police/military base. The next circle consisted of entertainment type businesses, such as the theater and taverns. The next group were the small homes of non-horse owners who live in small houses that are in rows on the outer edge of town. Finally in the wide open spaces I placed the homes of the horse owners and I had more than enough room for all of them. In fact some of them were able to have bigger lots than they had in New Ascadia. Darkfell's and Acacia's lot is now a 60 x 60, giving their horses a lot more room. There's plenty of space for a playground area when their son comes along.

I did a little more tinkering with Moonlight Falls to make it look less modern, at least as far as the buildings are concerned. The town was rebuilt using buildings I either took from Dragon Valley Redux or found on Mod the Sims. Those that were not already set up as rabbit holes had rabbit hole rugs added to them. The billboards and most of the road signs have been removed. I say most because every time I think I've removed them all I come across another one. After the community lots were changed I removed all of the modern looking houses. Some of the town residents were temporarily moved to the clipboard while their houses were changed. Sorry, but those large, flat-roofed houses stuck out like sore thumbs and didn't look right in the environment.

Since I'm between game weeks in both Appaloosa Plains and Dragon Valley/New Ascadia I spent some time playing some short games in two of the other worlds. I knew that Midnight Hollow would be too dark (lighting-wise) for my tastes but figured I may as well check it out anyway. I installed the Midnight Dream Lighting Mod which helped some, but with the textures themselves being so dark there is only so much that can be done. And not only is the world dark, but there is also very little space to move around. In spite of the world's large size, the game-play area isn't much more than narrow stripes of roads that wind between nearby hills. After about three game days I had enough.Read more... )
